“Often when we think about making the world a better place, it conjures up images of people who are doing great things in a big way! However, it really is simple acts of kindness from the heart in everyday moments that count. Not only do these small things add up, but each act, in itself, can have a profound effect in long-lasting ways. “Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” Leo Buscaglia. I think most of us can remember at least one, likely many times when the impact of a simple gesture has never left our mind, and it really is the simplest of things.
This is the premise from which our youth speakers present their stories, knowing that one student in any given assembly may resonate with one thing they said that shifts the trajectory of their lives in ways we may never know. But, like our youth speakers who feel really good about simply knowing they are making a difference, the “return-on-investment” for any of us is greater than the effort!
With so much stress, and angst, fear and mistrust in our world today, we all need to be mindful to do our part in making it a better place for us all – one kindness, one gesture, one story shared, one smile, one act of giving towards the greater good.
