Marketing & Communications Committee Chair – Job Description

Role of the Marketing & Communications Committee

The Marketing & Communications Committee plays an integral role in the organization’s external communications, helping to drive program bookings, increase the charity’s public profile and support fundraising efforts. The Committee is responsible for the organization’s marketing and public relations needs, including the development and implementation of a marketing and communications plan.

Responsibilities of Committee Chair

  1. Lead the development and implementation of the organization’s marketing and communications plan
  2. Work closely with the organization’s Volunteer Coordinator to appropriately build out the committee with volunteer members
  3. Communicate with various media sources to build public awareness and support of the organization
  4. Work closely with the Fundraising Committee Chair to promote and support fundraising initiatives
  5. Work closely with the social media team to leverage social media channels for specific events and campaigns as appropriate
  6. Lead the creation of marketing materials for promotion of the organization’s programs, brand, and fundraising activities
  7. Motivate, support and assist committee members with their roles
  8. Oversee the logistics of the committee’s operations and work, including assigning tasks and running meetings
  9. Initiate and lead the committee’s annual evaluation
  10. Work closely with the Executive Director and other staff to support marketing and PR initiatives as their availability permits
  11. Report to the Board of Directors on the committee’s work and recommendations
  12. Increase awareness of organization’s work, goals, and marketing needs, including within own networks whenever possible
  13. Minimum 1-year commitment required

Qualifications

  1. Must be member of YouthSpeak Board of Directors
  2. Exemplary communication skills
  3. Strong leadership skills
  4. Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail
  5. At least two years of marketing, communications, and/or PR experience, 5+ years preferred (Relevant sales experience will also be considered)
  6. Dedication, commitment and availability to perform all duties of Committee Chair
  7. Copywriting, creative and graphic design experience an asset
