“The mystery of life is not a problem to be solved, but a reality to be experienced.” — Frank Herbert
There was a time when I kept almost everything to myself. In high school, I rarely spoke up or showed interest in anything beyond what was required. I kept my room plain, avoided sharing what I liked, and isolated myself. I believed staying quiet would protect me from judgment, but that silence wore me down. It damaged my confidence, made connection difficult, and left me with growing anxiety in social settings.
What helped me escape was finding spaces where self-expression was encouraged. I joined my school’s drama club and discovered a love for performing. I found a local Dungeons & Dragons group and explored roleplay and acting in ways that let me reconnect with others. My story is just one example of how difficult self-expression can be. It took time, but I learned how essential it is. I hope my experience helps others find the courage to express themselves, even when it feels uncomfortable.

Join our Team
We are currently recruiting people who have a passion to contribute to the overall well-being of youth by joining our Board of Directors and/or other volunteer opportunities. The benefits of volunteering include excellent opportunity for involvement in a meaningful experience, the satisfaction of making a difference in the community and with youth, an opportunity to work with individuals of diverse backgrounds, the development of effective decision-making skills and an increased understanding of group dynamics and relationships.
