We All Have A Story

“There is much to be said about the power of story-telling, the oldest form of communication; even that much more when the story is a personal one shared with the intent to empower, inspire and educate others shared with boundaries that ensure emotional safety for the story-teller and for the listeners.

The beautiful thing is that we all have a story. Our lives are living stories with many stories with them that are full of lessons, joy, pain, love, loss, dreams fulfilled and unfilled. Even though our stories are unique to each of us, the thoughts and feelings that accompany the experiences are a place of connection to others. The relatability of one’s story to another person at a deep and human level opens the door for conversation. Sharing a personal story with boundaries and key messaging gives meaning to our life experiences because it helps heal the difficult ones. Ultimately, it can be a vehicle to change the world.

“We are ‘wired for story.’ Research has shown that hearing a story causes our brains to release cortisol and oxytocin. These chemicals trigger the uniquely human abilities to connect, empathize, and make meaning. Storytelling is in our DNA!” (Brene Brown, 2015)

Through my own journey of sharing my story, I find I am a little wiser, much stronger and more in awe at the willingness of others to do the same. For those of you whose inner voice, bright spirit and valuable contribution has not yet been heard, I encourage you to find a positive expression for your story. There is probably someone out there who needs to hear it.”
