Cantare, a concert fundraiser for YouthSpeak Performance Charity was held on August 30th, 2017 at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Woodbridge. The brainchild behind this event was Sabrina Di Battista, a twenty-year-old soprano singer who is immensely talented. Sabrina has traveled all over the world to study music and has performed at various charitable galas. She was accompanied by Yvonne Choi, an accomplished solo and collaborative pianist, who also maintains an active teaching studio.
Sabrina, like many youth, suffered from mental health issues that adversely affected her ability to function and be happy. She has received treatment and is now leading a full life. She recognizes the importance of YouthSpeak, as it provides leadership training to youth with personal experience related to mental health, bullying and/or addiction to share their stories. These young leaders facilitate assemblies and workshops for grades 4 to post-secondary in schools and the community throughout the GTA and Southern Ontario. YouthSpeak has reached over 185,000 students, parents and educators since its inception in 2003.
Una Wright, Founder of YouthSpeak expressed her gratitude towards Sabrina and her family. “Through Sabrina’s initiative and passion, along with her family’s support, she not only organized a spectacular evening of inspiration and serenity, but has generated much needed funds for youth mental health.” Indeed, proceeds from the evening amounted to almost $7,000!
YouthSpeak wishes to also thank the following sponsors for their support including Minuteman Press for printing the program, Glasgow Video Productions for photography and videography services, Sweet Seven & co. Inc for dessert donations, Anna Bevilacqua and the Floral Studio for the beautiful floral arrangements, and Starbucks and Fortino’s for food donations.
